A dental implant is a small titanium rod gently placed into the jawbone. Within 3-6 months, this rod fuses with your bone to create a “new root”. Implants restore the mouth to optimal function stabilizing the surrounding bone, tissue, and teeth by substituting the root structure of missing teeth. This helps to prevent further serious complications that can arise if missing teeth are left untreated.
First, the site is prepared in the bone, then the implant is placed into the bone sometimes with a special or custom healing cap. The site is then allowed to heal, providing stable footing for the replacement tooth. Once healing is complete, an abutment and a crown are placed to serve as the tooth replacement. This allows the implant to preserve and protect the surrounding tissue and bone, and continue to support ideal form and function.
Implant-supported dentures are permanent dentures. This means that even though they are a denture, they are securely placed into your jaw without ever needing to be removed. This is done by attaching your denture to dental implants.
To replace any missing tooth or teeth, you have the choice to place an implant, a bridge, or a custom-designed denture. Between you and your doctor, we can determine the right treatment plan for you. A determination is made based on your medical history, dental history, and home care habits. All of this information will lead to an ideal treatment plan for you with some alternatives and choices.
